THE STEM CELL THERAPY ETHICAL ISSUES AND CONTROVERSIES

Reported by: Ted Cho and Ver M. Garcia

The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) in its position statement on stem cell therapy that was released at the PCP Health Forum held recently at the Annabel's Restaurant at T. Morato in Timog, Quezon City. In photo.. Dra. Priscila Caguioa (PCP), Dr. Shelley Ann De La Vega, Dr. Guia Sison (PCP), Dra. Nenita Collantes (PCP), Dra. Jovilla Aborig, Dra. Maria Angelina Mirasol, Dra.Susan Anonuevo-DeLa Rama, Dra. G. Bael and Dr. Antonio Miguel A. Dans.

So That The Public May Know..

!~. Presently, stem cell therapy has been proven beneficial in very few medical conditions:
in Cancers of the blood, and bone marrow, some primary immune-deficiencies treated by    autologous or allogenic stem cell transplants.

2. The effectiveness and safety have yet to be proven in the following conditions: heart. lung, neurologic, skin, rheumatologic, kidney and gastro intestinal diseases, diabetes milletus, hypertension, autism, cancer, aging and aesthetics, HIV AIDS and other conditions.

3. The use of stem cell therapy for these conditions should be confined to clinical studies,  that is, properly designed studies that have been screened and approved by a duly constituted technical review board and ethics committee. Such studies should in fact be encouraged so that the potential benefits of stem cell therapy in these conditions can be documented.

4. Finally, we recognized and support the Rep. Act (RA) No. 3720 as amended by RA No. 9711, which mandates the FDA.. to conduct the appropriate tests on all applicable health products prior to the issuance of appropriate authorizations to ensure safety, efficacy, purity and quality (Section 4h) ; and "to develop and issue standards and appropriate authorizations that would cover establishments, facilities, and health products" (Section 4m).

As a public service.. Please report immediately to the FDA any of the following:

1. Practice of stem cell therapy by persons or institutions not accredited by the FDA.
2. Promtion and use of stem cell therapy for unproven indications (as listed in the PCP position paper) and
3. Acceptance of payments for stem cell therapy when used for these unproven indications.

You may directly contact  FDA No. T.910-2253 for any question regarding stem cell therapy or log on to the FDA website: report@fda.gov.ph

Live At The Present Moment.. Live Your Best Today And Tomorrow For The Future...

Fresh and Unfixed
There is Only Now

by: Evelyn T. Du

Being present lets us experience each moment in our lives in a way that cannot be fully lived through memory or fantasy.

It's easy to go through life on autopilot, rarely truly being present. While many dwell on the past or anticipate the future, it’s physically impossible to live anywhere but the present. We can't step out and turn back to May to December 2010. Still, we often overlook the future we wait for as it turns into the present, which we’re too busy to notice. Consequently, we spend our time playing catch-up with the fleeting moment we missed. In such times, remembering that only now exists is crucial. To feel more at home in the present, we should stay aware, open, and receptive.

Husband and wife: Wife, love your husband; husband, love your wife. Cherish your children and always love each other. Wónderful song by Ms. Emma Cordero, Asia's Princess of Songs. 'I Wanna Give Love'

When we start focusing our attention on the present moment, it can feel almost overwhelming to simply be here. There is a stillness that unfolds, which may take some getting used to, and the usual mental chatter that pulls us into our heads and away from the now reduces. We might feel a loss of control because we aren’t preoccupied with planning, evaluating, or looking ahead. Instead, being present calls for us to be adaptable, creative, attentive, and spontaneous. Every moment is entirely new, unlike any that have come before or will come again. As you go through your day, remember to stay present in each moment. By doing so, you'll live your life fully without waiting for the future or longing for the past. Life unfolds for us when we actively engage with it, now!

LET'S LIVE A LIFE OF JOY AND PEACE.. WITH GRACE THAT WILL BRING US SAFE.. AND WITH GRACE OUR FEARS RELIEVED..

Amazing Grace
By: Evelyn T Du

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found;
I was blind, but now I see.
'Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear,
And Grace, my fears are relieved.

How precious that Grace appears
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come.
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far,
and Grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me;
His word my hope secures.

He will be my shield and portion,
As long as life endures.
Yeah, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Then, when we first began.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
I was blind, but now I see.

THE HIDDEN TREASURES ARE WITHIN OUR HEARTS..

Hidden Treasures

Finding Another Vantage Point

By. Evelyn T. Du

Seeing the world from another perspective can introduce you to all sorts of hidden treasures.
The ocean can look very different, depending on whether you are standing at the shore, soaring above in a plane, or swimming beneath its waves. Likewise, a mountain can look very different relative to where you are standing. Each living thing sees the world from its unique vantage point. While from your window you may be seeing what looks like a huge shrub, a bird in its nest is getting an intimate view of that tree’s leafy interior. Meanwhile, a beetle sees only a massive and never-ending tree trunk. Yet all three of you are looking at the same tree.

Just as a shadow concealed from one angle becomes visible from another, you might miss a stunning view if you don't change your perspective. Seeing the world through different eyes—whether physically or mentally—can reveal hidden treasures. Often, discovery begins with a new way of looking at things. A common example is our reaction to insects. While a spider spinning its web in a dark corner may seem dull, scary, and mysterious, up close it weaves silver snowflakes among the branches, resembling colorful jewels.
At the end of the rainbow.. there's always a pot of Gold..

Sometimes, life presents experiences that may seem confusing, alarming, or worrisome from your perspective. Other times, events may appear insignificant from your vantage point. Try viewing them from a different angle. Bury your face in the grass and observe the world from a bug’s perspective. Explore your home as if you were a small child. Take a ride in a small aircraft and see the world from a wider scope. Just as kneeling down can help you see more clearly when searching for a lost treasure, stepping back can help you grasp the bigger picture of what you’re observing. Doing so allows you to experience vastly different perspectives on this world.

Book Review.. The Book of Afformations.. by Noah St. John

The Book of Afformations
A New Way to Banish Negative Talk
by Noah St. John

What is an afformation? No, that’s not a typo. Noah St. John created a new dimension of positive thinking to describe the process of creating and asking empowerin
g questions. Questions compel us to seek answers. By changing the negative questions we ask ourselves into positive ones, we empower ourselves! Are you one of those people going through life asking yourself disempowering questions without realizing it? And then wondering why you’re not getting the results you dream of? Let’s take a look at the disempowering questions you’re unconsciously asking yourself right now. Then we’ll learn how to consciously turn those disempowering questions into Afformations®, my term for questions which empower.

What are disempowering questions? They’re questions that do precisely that: they disempower you and effectively take away your power to act, by focusing your mind on what you don’t have, what you can’t do, and who you are not.

Disempowering questions take away your power to act.

Of course, no one goes around asking these negative questions on purpose. But you may be unconsciously asking disempowering questions without even realizing it. That’s why I’d like you to try something right now. I want you to say these common disempowering questions out loud, and see how you feel as a result. Ready?

Why don’t I have enough money?
Why am I so lonely?
Why am I such a loser?
Why am I so fat?
Why am I so broke?
Why do I never get the breaks that other people get?
Why can’t I do anything right?
Each of us is carrying around what I call a Negative Reflection in our subconscious mind—that negative inner voice that tells us we can’t do anything right. The Negative Reflection always asks negative or disempowering questions like the ones listed above.

The ultimate result of them is that you manifest what you focus on. In other words, when you ask yourself negative questions, you get negative results.
Create an Afformations Journal for yourself and write the five most disempowering questions that your Negative Reflection asks you on a regular basis.

Yes, I mean right now.

These disempowering questions may have come from someone in your past, or perhaps you made them up on your own. Either way, it’s vital that you know exactly what your own disempowering questions are so you can begin to turn them around.

Are you ready to find a better way?

Empowering Questions—the Right Questions to Ask
Now that you’ve identified the disempowering questions you’ve been unconsciously asking, you’re probably asking another question right now: “Okay, if those are the disempowering questions I’ve been asking, what are empowering questions—and how can I start asking those instead?”

Empowering questions are those that have precisely the opposite effect of their negative counterparts. While disempowering questions focus your mind on what you don’t have, can’t do, and are not—and therefore take away your power to act—empowering questions focus your mind what you have, what you can do, and who you are.

Empowering questions unleash your ability to take action and express Who You Really Are.

The answers to empowering questions produce feelings of positive self-worth and ultimately lead to answers that tell the truth about Who You Really Are.

Let’s try something fun right now. I want you to change the five disempowering questions you just wrote into empowering questions. How do you do this? Simply reverse the negative question into a positive! For example, let’s say one of the disempowering questions you wrote was: How come I never get the breaks other people get? Your empowering question might be: Why am I so lucky?

Or if one of the disempowering questions you wrote was: Why am I so fat?

Your empowering question could be: Why is it so easy for me to lose weight?

Got it? Grab your pen and change your five disempowering questions into empowering questions in your Afformations® Journal. Are you ready to experience the Afformations difference? Go for it!

Pretty cool, huh? Did you notice something shift in your mind? What does it feel like? Congratulations! You’ve just begun an amazing journey to your new abundant lifestyle.
tting the results you dream of? Let’s take a look at the disempowering questions you’re

THERE'S NO PROBLEM THAT CAN'T BE SOLVE.. ALWAYS KEEP ON TRYING..

The Light at the End of the Tunnel Nothing is Insurmountable
By. Evelyn T. Du

There is nothing in your life that cannot be overcome; whatever the situation or problem, there is always a solution. When our next best course of action seems unclear, any dilemmas we face can appear insurmountable. Yet there is nothing we cannot overcome with time, persistence, focused thought, help, and faith. Whatever the situation or problem, there is always a solution. And if you remember to look within, even as you search around you for the “right” course of action, you will be able to center yourself, clear your mind, and see that nothing has to be impossible.
The first step in overcoming any obstacle is to believe that it can be overcome. Doing so will give you the strength and courage to move through any crisis. The second step is to make a resolution that you can prevail over any chaos. Enlist your support network of family and friends if necessary. The more minds there are to consider a problem, the more solutions can be found. Don’t discount ideas just because they seem impractical or “unrealistic,” and don’t keep searching for the “best” alternative. Often there is no “best” choice, there is only a choice to make so we can begin moving beyond whatever is obstructing our path. At the very least, making a choice, even if it is not the ideal one, can give you a sense of peace before you have to figure out what your next course of action will be.

AMAZING GRACE
If you feel overwhelmed by the scope of your troubles, you may want to think of other people who have turned adversity into triumph. We often gain a fresh perspective when we remember others who have overcome larger obstacles. It can be inspiring to hear of their victories, helping us remember that there is always light at the end of every tunnel. It is during our darkest hours that we sometimes need to remind ourselves that we don’t have to feel helpless. You have within and around you the resources to find a solution to any problem. And remember that if a solution or choice you make doesn’t work, you are always free to try another. Believe that you can get through anything, and you will always prevail. (VerGarciaBlogs)
