I tried their chocolate drink. It can be enjoyed hot or iced. I drank it with ice. It is rich and refreshing. My husband tried both iced and hot. He said he enjoyed it both ways.

DESPITE CONCERNS FOR GROWING ACTIVISM PUP OBTAINS P187 MILLION FOR CLASSROOM SHORTAGE

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the start of construction for the new main academic building of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Main Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila will help address the 9-story shortage of classrooms and learning facilities.

 In a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH National Capital Region Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas said that the soon-to-rise modern story shortage main school building will replace the old structure with six floors that will accommodate PUP’s growing student population. Before the pandemic, it registered the highest number of students enrolled with more than 70,000 and counting. The Polytechnic University of the Philippines is located in Sta. Mesa, Manila, Philippines.

“We are as excited as the students in the reopening of schools and return of in-person classes, and one of the ways we are welcoming back our Iskolar ng Bayan is by providing them a bigger, better learning environment,” Director Canlas added.

 

The ceremonial groundbreaking was graced by DPWH Assistant Secretary Antonio V. Molano, alongside PUP officials and faculty led by University President Manuel M. Muhi and Executive Vice President Alberto C. Guillo.

 

The school building project will be implemented in phases by DPWH NCR. Phase 1 will start with the North Wing, with a funding allocation of P187.3 million, and is estimated to be completed in twelve months.

PUP is known for its student activism.  PUP has many student groups active in political reform. The militant national democratic partisan groups are the cause of frequent rallies on campus. PUP's variety of partisan groups includes liberal, socialist, socdem, and several political organizations.

In addition, more than a hundred of the student population are foreigners from Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Myanmar (ASEAN Countries) others are the People's Republic of China, and African states are Tanzania, Nigeria, and Ghana. Also, students from South Korea visit PUP every summer to take up courses in the English language.

But, overall, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is now the top school most companies preferred to hire, as reported by JobStreet Philippines. As mentioned, results from the report showed, that for jobs in the area of business process outsourcing (BPO) or Call Centers, Polytechnic University of the Philippines was the priority choice. MANILA – Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF), an attached agency of the Department of Tourism (DOT) organized a Tree Planting Activity ahead of the World Environmental Health Day while waiting to get funds to develop its 9.5-hectare property recently in the Entertainment City in Paranaque City.

The said park was envisioned to serve as a "heritage space" with pocket gardens, open spaces, a library, and a museum that houses its "rare artifacts" and collections highlighting the country's cultural heritage.

NPF has been severely affected by the pandemic causing grave effects on its financial status and operations. The two-billion fund allocated by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) which was supposed to jumpstart the building of the Nayong Pilipino Cultural and Creative Hub in Paranaque City was put on hold to address the COVID-19 emergency pursuant to Republic Act No. 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act. The said project was supposed to generate income not only for the NPF but for the national government, as well.

In addition, the foundation is looking to establish a tree-lined park on a portion of the 9.5-hectare land by organizing tree planting activities in partnership with other government agencies, private sectors, and civil society groups. In partnership with the Rotary Club Canlubang, some 170 samplings were planted. “Our partnership with the Rotary Club is an example of how collaboration can raise awareness about today’s most pressing environmental concerns. Only by working together, we can protect people and provide communities with healthier environments for generations to come,” said NPF Executive Director Gertie Duran-Batocabe.

“Moreover, with the pandemic pushing us to be more appreciative of open spaces, there could be no more perfect time than now to build urban parks not just to promote sustainable development for our community, but also to attract tourists and enhance the tourism experience which is included in the 7-point agenda of DOT Secretary Cristina Frasco,” Batocabe added.

Aside from establishing parks and recreation centers for tourism, the NPF is also mandated to promote, encourage, and initiate research and development projects and activities in social science and humanities. The foundation had been organizing roundtable discussions under its "Umpukan sa Nayon" program, some of the most recent ones focused on linguistic diversity as the essence of Filipino culture and raising awareness of the Philippines' complex history with the LGBTQIA+ community. Its advocacy for a greener environment and nature conservation is also continuous through its "Project Sambayanihan".

New Manila Boystown Complex Building Underway

 

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started to construct a new building project for the Manila Boystown Complex in Marikina City.

DPWH Assistant Secretary Antonio V. Molano Jr. and National Capital Regional Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas, together with Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, recently led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a modernized facility that will benefit both the personnel and the Manila city government’s constituents.

 

The four-story building will rise in a 720-square-meter area inside the complex. It will house offices and 17-bed spaces with a private bathroom, including provision for storage, laundry, and kitchen areas, to be utilized by Boystown employees.

 

The first two floors will be dedicated as an evacuation center to provide comfortable shelter to disaster-stricken families, while other spaces will double as additional homes for the abandoned youth and elderly.

 

Once completed, this new facility will greatly help the Boystown personnel in fulfilling their commitment to providing care and support to the homeless and abandoned, particularly children and senior citizens, on the streets of Manila.

SAD PLIGHT FOR DEPORTED OFW'S IN KUWAIT FOR OVERSTAYING AND PETTY OFFENSES - BY VER GARCIA

Some 289 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) onboard a chartered Philippine Airlines flight from Kuwait are due to arrive later this evening in the Philippines. Kuwaiti authorities apprehended the OFWs over the past month as part of an ongoing crackdown in the Middle Eastern country targeting migrant workers with residency violations and absconding cases. Most of the apprehended OFWs are longtime runaway workers.

A team from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) through its attached agency Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will meet the OFWs upon their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The DMW-OWWA team led by Deputy Administrator Arnell Ignacio will assist the OFWs through the post-repatriation process which includes services for airport assistance, psycho-social counseling, stress debriefing as well as medical referrals. Temporary shelter and accommodations will be provided to the OFWs while transportation to their respective provinces is arranged.

There are 289 OFW passengers on PAL chartered flight PR 8764. 245 of the deportees came from the Kuwaiti Deportation Center. Among the other repatriates are pregnant women (3), medical cases (3), mother and child (5), and other wards (33 cases).

The National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), meanwhile, will also assist the repatriated OFWs with their reintegration needs. (VerGarciaBlogs)

We fully believe and have confidence in you. We know that you will do amazingly and make laws that will redound to the benefit of the labor sector and ultimately for the benefit of our beloved country.

We take also this opportunity, to congratulate Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez for being elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, as one of the strong pillars of our lawmaking body.

There were many adversaries confronting the labor groups such as the power rates increase, pestering traffic snarls, increased cost of medicine, and the unabated fuel price hike that will definitely increase the price of goods and services.

Is there a need for government subsidies for minimum wage earners? Probably, there is... but the new position given to our beloved TUCP President Raymond Mendoza as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives will greatly help to address the pressing problems of labor such as contractualization and wage increase.
