Parents braved the crowded health centers in Metro Manila with their babies, 9 months to 11 months for the first dose of measles vaccine and same with their kids, 12 months to 23 months for the second dose of measles vaccine. This is in consonance with the Department of Health and Local Government Unit trust to eradicate if not totally lessen the case of Measles outbreak in our country as they spearheaded the measles vaccination campaign.
Mobile teams have been deployed for a door to door approached that will ensure the children 9 months to 59 months (5 years old) receive their first dose or complete their 2nd dose in areas where there have been rising cases of measles or significant number of those non vaccinated children. The LGU's can opt to vaccinate only children with missed doses or include all children, regardless of their vaccination status or history of measles illness.
For the past several weeks the City of Manila had already covered 148 Barangay's with 21, 560 children ranging from the 5 years and above.
DOH Sec. Enrique T. Ona in a meeting with City Health officers announced recently a nationwide 'Ligtas Tigdas' campaign this coming September 2014, targeting 13 million children. The DOH supplemental immunization activities is aimed at following -up with children who missed the vaccine doses since 2011. (VerGarciaBlogs)
