GOOD NEWS PARA SA MGA PENSIYONADO NG SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM...

SSS PENSIONS MATATANGGAP NA NGAYON OKTUBRE 2020

SSS President and CEO Aurora C. Ignacio

Shimizu Ulticon Takenaka of Japan To Undertake Almost 11 KM. Highway Davao City Bypass Construction

DPWH AWARDS CONTRACT FOR DAVAO CITY BYPASS CONSTRUCTION PROJECT TO JAPANESE CONSORTIUM

The ceremonial signing of contract was virtually witnessed by Embassy of Japan in the Philippines Second Secretary Tomohiro Matsubara; Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Philippines Chief Representative Eigo Azukizawa; JICA Philippines Senior Representative Kiyo Kawabuchi, and other JICA and Japan embassy officials.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has awarded the civil works contract for the initial implementation of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the joint venture group of Shimizu - Ulticon - Takenaka will undertake the construction of contract package 1-1 covering 10.7 kilometers of four (4) lane highway inclusive of 2.3 kilometer tunnel in the amount of P13.230 Billion within 37 months or 1,110 calendar days.

This bypass road will mitigate congestions in Davao City with the travel time between Brgy. Sirawan in Toril District Davao City and Brgy. J.P. Laurel in Panabo City of 1 hour and 44 minutes via Pan-Philippine Highway Diversion Road to be reduced into 49 minutes via Davao City Bypass, added Secretary Villar.

As authorized by Secretary Villar, the contract agreement between DPWH and the contractor was signed on Thursday, October 29, 2020 by DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations and Technical Services Emil K. Sadain, Project Director Virgilio C. Castillo of DPWH UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1, and Mr. Makoto Fujii and Mr. Gil P. Manuel of Shimizu - Ulticon – Takenaka Joint Venture.

According to Undersecretary Sadain, considered the most significant component of the project included in the awarded contract package is the 2.3 kilometer mountain tunnel that that will run through the mountainous barangay to shorten the drive from the Davao-Digos Intersection of the Pan Philippine Highway in Toril, Davao City towards the intersection of the Davao-Agusan National Highway in Panabo City.

It is expected that Japanese technology such as excavation techniques for tunnel construction will be applied and our Filipino engineers and skilled workers may take advantage of acquiring technical knowledge and expertise in the building of the tunnel that will be the longest in the country once completed, said Undersecretary Sadain.

Davao City Bypass Construction Project will be funded by the Japanese Official Development Assistance signed last June providing the Government of the Philippines with a Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP) Loan from JICA under Loan Agreement Nos. PH-P261 and PH-P273. Under the STEP loan that will promote transfer of outstanding Japanese technology and expertise, the main contract is Japan tied but allows a joint venture in addition to the Japanese company.

Secretary Villar said that by constructing a bypass road, this will be a driving force for economic growth in the entire Mindanao by connecting the port area to the southern end of the Davao City while avoiding the city center.

The entire bypass road with a total length of 45.5 kilometer is divided into six (6) packages: package I-1 (10.7 km), package I-2 (12.8 km), package I-3 (6.1 km), package II-1 (2.7 km), package II-2 (3.5 km), and package II-3 (9.7 km).  (VerGarciaBlogs)

REP. MENDOZA OF TUCP CONDEMNS AMBASSADOR MAURO FOR MALTREATING OFW DOMESTIC HELPER

TUCP: Cruel Behaviour of Ambassador to  Brazil Unacceptable

In Photo. Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro with Ex-President Michel Temer of Brazil accepts Mauro's credentials.

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines condemns the behaviour of Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro, who was recently recalled to the Philippines pending an investigation into the video that surfaced showing her to be beating an unidentified household service worker in her home.

Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza of TUCP stresses a point in his speech in behalf of its members. 'First and foremost in his agenda is to depend the interest and well being of the labor sector. (Original Photo by: Ver Garcia)

"We in the labor are utterly shocked at the behaviour that was exhibited by Ambassador Marichu Mauro in the videos that were released. It is absolutely disgusting for a civil servant, and someone supposedly representing the interests of the Filipino people in a foreign country to so cavalierly beat and mistreat their employees. And for what reason? Because she believes she is entitled to harm others who she may think to be in a lower station than her? Our OFWs are hailed as our bagong bayani yet we cannot even protect them from abuse at the hands of our own diplomats!," the Chairman of the Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza said.

"There is abuse of our kapwa Filipino being done overseas, right under the very noses of our government!  This is a very difficult situation, with the worker vulnerable and fearful for their job while in another country no less. Government needs to strengthen its mechanisms for reporting instances of abuse so that workers can do so without fear of retaliation. Where was the labor-attaché in this case? For how long did this worker have to suffer silently?," the lawmaker asked.

"An investigation into those who may have been complicit to the savage treatment received by the worker should be launched, and legal charges should be filed against them. Should Ambassador Marichu Mauro be found guilty, she should be expelled from the foreign service. We are not tolerant of the abuse of workers, especially when we condemn the barbaric treatment our workers receive at the hands of their foreign employers," the TUCP party-list representative explained.

Maharlika appeals to all Filipino vloggers to share this video containing Ambassador Mauro maltreating OFW workers.

Are we flatten by the onslaught of killer flu and viruses that engulfs the whole world? Many deaths were reported and our country was not spared. This is now the right time to boost our morale and our body system. OFW's, Seafarers and People with busy lifestyle. This one is for you. Let's try this. It helps.

"We are hopeful that basic human decency would be sufficient to prevent these situations from happening, but it is unfortunate that we cannot expect such from even the supposedly most dignified members of the Government. We have filed a resolution calling for the ratification of ILO Convention 190 (Violence and Harassment Convention) and we will do our best to ensure its passage," the lawmaker ended. Labor Group Pushes For The Full Payment of Workers 13th Month Pay And Christmas Bonus To Stimulate Economic Growth
AWATU-TUCP, President Temistocles Dejon, Jr stresses a point about the 13th month pay stimulus.

The All Workers Alliance Trade Union (AWATU) an affiliate labor federation of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) pushes for the full payment of workers 13th month pay and providing Christmas bonus to stimulate the country's economic recovery amid the Covid-19 pandemic. AWATU-TUCP President Temistocles Dejon. Jr. said that based on economic data, around 60% of the Philippines gross domestic product (GDP) is derived derived from consumption-related economic activities which are heavily affected by the ongoing health crisis. "By giving the full amount of workers 13th month pay and providing Christmas bonus, millions of workers and their families will have money to spend for their needs and other expenses, thereby increasing consumption as the engine of country's economic growth and recovery." said Dejon.

The economy will benefit from the 13th month pay and Christmas bonus given by the employers to the workers and that will jumpstart the country's economy according to Temistocles Dejon, Jr., President, AWATU-TUCP.

According to a recent report of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) the Philippine economy would reach by 7.3% in 2020 in order to prop up consumption and thereby stimulating economic recovery, workers and consumers must have cash to spend for food, medicines and other essential needs including education and transportation. "The increased circulation of money will surely help in jumpstarting faster economic recovery next year. The full payment of 13th month pay and the provision of Christmas bonus this year will not only benefit the workers and their families but also the entire economy as well." explained Dejon.

The Department of Labor (DOLE) obliged that every employer should give the 13th month pay not later than December 24 of the current year as mandated by R.A. 10653 and the Christmas bonus may be given in a form of gift certificates. canned goods and monetary. Making it non-taxable.

Aegis Christmas Bonus.

"We call on the government to ensure that the workers 13th month pay will be given by employers on time. We also appeal to employers to give bonus not only in accord with the spirit of Christmas but also as their contribution in the country's economic recovery." thus Dejon ended.  ((VerGarciaBlogs)

PHILIPPINES DPWH IN A HURRY TO CLEAR PASIG RIVER WITH WATER HYACINTH SINCE IT OBSTRUCT OPERATION OF FERRY BOAT AND OTHER MARINE TRANSPORT

Additional dredger to be deployed to clear Hyacinth-Infested Areas of Pasig River

 by Ver Garcia Blogs

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be deploying an additional water master dredger with rake attachment to control the proliferation of water hyacinth that hamper the waterflow and ferry boat operation along Pasig River.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the DPWH Sagip Manila Bay Team reported its recent DPWH coordination meeting and inspection with concerned agencies which brought about the need to deploy more equipment to fast-track clearing operations of water hyacinth that also cause further pollution along the river that flows directly to Manila Bay.

“Currently, a 25-cubic meter trash skimmer near Jones Bridge is operating to clear the water hyacinth infestation in the area. One (1) amphibious excavator and one (1) trash skimmer were also deployed along Napindan River in Barangay Sta. Ana, Taytay, Rizal which is now almost free from piles of hyacinth,” said Secretary Villar.

DPWH has been clearing obstruction along Pasig River for over a year now, deploying several equipment to dredge the shallow areas of the river, and clear floating debris and hyacinths.

According to DPWH Bureau of Director Toribio Noel L. Ilao, a water master dredger with rake attachment will be soon be deployed to remove water hyacinths along other areas of Pasig River, next will be the Lawton Area, going to Malacañang.

“We are working with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) so we can address this issue soonest,” said Secretary Villar.

For their part, the LLDA has identified a 2-hectare spoil site for the collected water hyacinth while MMDA is constructing a permanent water hyacinth traps in several locations. (VerGarciaBlogs)

WORLD DAY FOR DECENT WORK ZOOMING OCTOBER 7, 2020 WEDNESDAY... ALL UNION WORKERS NON-UNION WORKERS ARE INVITED

TRADE UNIONS SHOUT OUT FOR SAFE AND HEALTHY WORKPLACES, SECURED JOBS AND INCOME AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

World Day For Decent Work

This year's October 7, annual celebration for World Decent Work marks the 12th Year of recognizing the Trade Union victories in achieving freedom and justice and light for decent work. The IndustriALL Philippine affiliates celebration for this year is centered on the theme ''Manggagawa Kaligtasan, Kalusugan at Kabuhayan tiyakin sa panahon ng Pandemya''. Against the backdrop of the spread of coronavirus Covid-19), the world of work changed for the worse. The Philippines had not been spared by the pandemic, imposes community quarantine as a containment measure without taking into account the impact of such to employment and income of the people, especially the working poor.

Many of the workers denied the elusive financial assistance, often neglected by scarce relief goods distribution by the local government units, lack of public transportation, inaccessible social services and lack of income. Unemployment especially for the young and newly entrants in the labor force soared high. Retrenchment and lay-offs were being issued by employers left and right seemingly affected by the slowing down of the economy or using the pandemic as an excuse to curtail the right of workers to organize and secure permanent jobs. In addition, the Women workers are also vulnerable to abuse and harassment.

Again. without any consultation from the affected sectors, the government decided to ease quarantines not because of its effectiveness in containing the pandemic but due to the weak economy that can not endure any longer.

Workers who have no other choice, are confronted with uncertainty whether they can sustain their jobs, livelihood and safety at work under the new normal. Trade Unions step in to take its active role in mobilizing and extending support to members and workers at large by distributing provisions for health workers like face masks, face shields and hand sanitizers, even food and other hygienic needs.

But, this alone is not enough, government and policy makers as well as employers should take its toll by ensuring that approriate safety and health protection should be accorded to the workers and people amid the Covid-19 Pandemic.

A valid demand by the labor sector that government should take notice in celebration of the World Day for Decent Work.

In this year's World Day for Decent Work, the IndustriALL Philippines affiliates are shouting out and pushes workers demands on the following:

1. Conduct Mass Testing combined with efficient contact tracing and isolation.

2. Provide paid quarantine leave.

3. Mandatory Establishment of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) committees even in establishments were workers are organized into unions.

4.Companies strict compliance with: a.) cleaning and disinfection of workplaces by closing the company and not just a particular section. b.) provision of free and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to workers.

5. PEZA and LGU's  to recognize labor unions as social partners and to be involved in regular consultations, joint monitoring and in the design and implementation of safety and health guidelines.

In short term, the unions call for the appropriate government agencies to respond on the immediate proposals.

For the Employees Compensation Commission to classify Covid-19 as an Occupational disease. For the Department of Labor and Employment to strengthen the labor inspectorate system and to ensure employment and security of income most especially women and young workers are guaranteed and protected.

Pointers on Writing an Article or Story

HOW TO WRITE AN ARTICLE
Research by: Speech Club International
Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut, typical scene in remote barrios.

An effective article should incorporate a concise and simple style of writing to convey the subject matter clearly to the reader. It is one that creates a vivid impression and explains the message in easy to understand language. It also entails use of correct grammar and appropriate tenses. One should avoid use of unclear vocabulary and long sentences that might confuse the reader.

A good article mainly employs the active voice to give the text immediacy. The active voice also creates engaging content that tends to have a conversational tone. It reveals the writer as informed and an authority on the subject. Due to the relative length of the story, this kind of treatment should have the power and quality to grip the mind of the reader to the very last line. Its ease tends to point to the reader that what they are reading is reliable and well researched and hence educative.
A poem as lovely as a tree.

A comprehensive article is one that uses a minimal number of paragraphs depending on its overall length. This means that the theme being treated should be divided into several paragraphs that relate to the whole. A good paragraph should be based on a thematic and topical approach to the main topic. Each paragraph should be a development of an idea in a logical stream that the reader can be able to follow easily. To achieve effect, it deals with one idea at a time.
A beautiful Big Horn.

One should also use a relevant title that reflects in one short phrase the whole meaning of the story. It acts as a lead to the topic. For a title to be an effective cap for an article it should contain a keyword that is used inside the story most often. This enables the reader to keep revisiting the topic as they make out the story as it develops. A good article uses the last paragraph as a summary. It creates a vivid understanding to what one has just read in the preceding sentences. (VerGarciaBlogs)
