Association of licensed recruitment
agencies for Taiwan supports OEC suspension
Because
of the adverse reports, Ms. Gerodias said the PILMAT has been criticized by
other stakeholders in the overseas recruitment sector. (VGBlogs)
Ms.
Aida C. Gerodias, president of the Pilipino Manpower Association for Taiwan
(PILMAT), the group of licensed recruitment agencies whose members deploy tens
of thousands of overseas Filipino workers to Taiwan, yesterday expressed
support to the suspension of the processing of overseas employment certificates
(OECs), saying DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III has assured the
association that “the suspension will only be for 15 days and that it will be
to the benefit of the OFWs.”
“We
have met with Secretary Bello and we are satisfied with his explanation on D.O.
185,” Ms. Gerodias said in a statement.
At
the same time, Ms. Gerodias decried the news that portrayed the PILMAT as
vehemently opposed to D.O. 185, the order which suspended the acceptance and
processing by the POEA of OECs.
Saying
that the PILMAT has not yet fully discussed the repercussions of D.O. 185, she
singled out recruiter Emmanuel Geslani for attributing to PILMAT
statements that tended to show it was against the order according to Gerodias.
“The
statements attributed to us are false and painted the PILMAT in a bad light,”
she stated.
“News
reports purportedly generated by Mr. Geslani and quoting us were not true. I
don’t know Mr. Geslani personally. He never talked to me about D.O. 185, and
how can I, even if he did, when I was in sick bay?” Ms. Gerodias lamented.
“The
PILMAT, of which I am the president, is still to meet, so any statement
attributed to me and to the association is premature,” she added.
