DEPT. OF TRADE TO GO AFTER SUBSTANDARD CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

DTI urged to monitor substandard construction materials

Roofings manufacturers have called on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to monitor strictly the quality of construction materials following the proliferation of substandard products in the market.

 

They said those who are usually victimized are poor people who buy low priced products like roofing, wire and steel.

 

 “The poor are victimized twice should they buy the substandard products as these  do not last long, so they are forced to shell out more,” said Elmer C. Ngo , president of Mileage Asia Corp. , local producer of Cherry Lume roofing materials and Sumo GI sheet.

 

Ngo said substandard construction materials proliferate in the market because of the increasing cases of smuggling of the items in the country.

 

He said the DTI should go all-out in its effort to remove substandard construction materials from the market as it would only shortchange consumers.

 

 Even hardware stores should similarly be concerned with the standard of  construction materials that they sell to protect the poor, Ngo said.

 

Puyat Steel also issued a call for stricter control of imports at various customs zones.

 

Ngo said that the government is doing right in stamping locally produced products with quality sign if manufacturers meet the standard requirements. “This means consumers would know that the products are of standard quality.”

 He said that the government should be extra vigilant in checking construction materials that are sold in various hardwares  in the country so that substandard goods are not sold in various outlets.                                    

                  

Ngo noted  that because of the huge profits that could be obtained from selling substandard products,  unscrupulous businessmen pass these off as good quality items to consumers. (VerGarciaBlogs)

SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM PHILIPPINES OPTED FOR PREPAID CARDS TO SERVICE SALARY LOANS

Members of the Social Security System (SSS) now have the option to receive their salary loans through Citi Visa Prepaid cards that provide borrowers a quicker, safer and more convenient means of receriving their loan proceeds.

SSS Vice-President and Officer in Chargeof Lending and Asset Management Division May Catherine Ciriaco said the agency will pilot the SSS Citi Visa Prepaid Card on March 6, 2014 for members applying for Salary Loan at SSS Branches in Diliman, Quezon Cityand in Buendia, Makati City which both account for a high volume of salary loan applications.

Members with the SSS Citi Visa Prepaid Card can get their salary loan funds automatically within days,  instead of waiting for two weeks for their loan check to arrive through the mail. They no longer need to encash the check at the bank since they can already conveniently access their funds through ATM withdrawal or by swiping their card for purchases at Visa accredited merchants in the Philippines and overseas," Ciriaco said.

In a media forum hosted by Philippine College of Physician (PCP), Drs. Susan De La Rama and Dr. Noel Castillo explain the following facts about chronic kidney disease. About ten percent of the adult population worldwide have some form of kidney disease.  Every year millions of people worldwide die prematurely because of the complications related to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), mainly due to cardiovascular diseases.

Worldwide, CKD is an important public health problem that is closely linked to other major non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease and increase the likelihood of adverse outcome and high cost of of health care.

In the Philippnes, kidney diseases rank number 10 among the leading causes of death based on the Department of health statistics for the past several years.

CKD is progressive loss in kidney function over a period of months to years. Each of our two kidneys has about a million tiny filters, called nephrons. If nephrons are damaged, it stops working. Meantime, the healthy nephrons can take on the extra work but if the damage continues, more and more nephrons shuts down. After a certain point, the nephrons that are left can not filter your blood sufficiently to keep you healthy.

Based on Phil. Renal Registry of the DOH REDCOP and PSN. There are 18,868 patients on dialysis treatment in 2012. There are 12,122 new patients nationwide who started on dialysis in 2012. This number of new patients starting on Dialysis has been increasing by more than ten percent every year for the past ten years! There are 342 patients who had kidney transplantation in 2012. Among the top 3 leading causes of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in the Philippines are: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and CKD.  

Practical Suggestions in Preventing Kidney Disease:
1. Keeping fit and active.
2. Control and manage blood sugar level.
3. Control and manage blood pressure level.
4. Eat balance and healthy diet and keep your in check and manageable.
5. Adequate fluid intake.
6. Do not smoke.
7. Check your kidney function if you any of the high risk factors.
      a. Diabetes mellitus
      b. Hypertension
      c. Obesity
      d. Family members with kidney disease.
8. Consult experts when taking drugs and supplements.
9. If all the above fails and you can't sleep stop counting the sheep and talk to the SHEPHERD and pray.
