To all Members: AWATU-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP)
On behalf of the All Workers Alliance Trade Union (AWATU-TUCP),
As we celebrate Labor Day in the Philippines, we confront numerous challenges. Workers are at a loss regarding the issues that exacerbate labor difficulties due to the high cost of living, which undermines minimum wage standards in the country, particularly in the provinces. Filipinos are not earning enough to meet their basic needs and support their daily expenses.
It is in the hands of President Bongbong Marcos to certify the proposed ₱200 legislated wage hike as urgent, which represents the only hope for the vast majority of our workers lacking unions and collective bargaining agreements. The wage increase would alleviate the dire situation of our workers, who are facing incredibly tough times. The price of goods is rising faster than their salaries.
The battle cry emerges after years of hardships and pleas. The President needs to dialogue with the Philippine Labor Organizations and TUCP, the country's largest labor center, to address the extreme levels of poverty and hunger the Filipino people have endured since the pandemic. The President should act swiftly and tackle workers' struggles with this essential increase to help them make ends meet.
With this in mind, the AWATU-TUCP National President, Tem Dejon, Jr., aligns with our visions and goals for our country, embracing the theme of this Labor Day - Empower the Labor Force with Decent Wages and Additional Jobs!
We in the Labor Group, the AWATU-TUCP, express our sincerest congratulations to the new heroes of the world - the labor sector! We will never forget your contributions to the development and progress of our country and the workplaces you occupy. Our great admiration and appreciation belong to AWATU-TUCP and other labor sectors. Cheers to this very significant day!
